 Antioxidant Advantage

Oxygen  is essential to human life, but it is also involved in toxic reactions within the body and is therefore a constant threat to our well being. During metabolism unstable oxygen molecules called "free radicals" are released. Antioxidants form the protective mechanism, which battles with these free radicals. When the antioxidants levels are inadequate, free radicals proliferate, with damaging consequences like cancer, atherosclerosis and other diseases.

Tea contains polyphenols, which has more antioxidant properties than 22 vegetables or fruits. A study conducted at The Antioxidant Research Centre in London in 1999, found that two cups of tea contained as much antioxidant property, as seven glasses of orange juice or twenty glasses of apple juice!! While tea cannot replace fruits or vegetables in a balanced diet, a170 ml (6 oz) cup of tea can make a significant contribution to the daily intake of antioxidant.
